Betul Iscan

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Educational Policy, Research, and Administration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. My research centers on the financing of higher education, the influence of geographic context on educational outcomes, and the factors shaping students’ choice of academic major.

More specifically, I examine the interplay between gender inequality and STEM major selection; the connections among rurality, urbanity, and student loan default; and the ways in which financial aid structures influence graduates’ transition into the labor market, including their first job placement and long-term employment trajectories.
